One of #Scotlands rare Hydnellum tooth #fungi (I cant remember the exact ID for this one) ,the photo was taken in #Lairg #Sutherland .
The rare species are very different to the common wood hedgehog fungi though they look spiny underneath ,they are protected (and in any case inedible)

We got a smattering of snow ,but I suspect further out theres been more,the workmen who live in Dingwall and those in Alness didnt arrive today and they have been turning up in high winds and sub zero temp .The younger chickens werent sure what had happened to their world and made the mistake off running out into the white stuff before fleeing back ,my oldies just stood at the door waiting for breakfast in bed,My tiny broody is inside

We have had two bouts of freezing rain here ,its def freezing rain I went out and let the chickens out and the paths were frosty but not slippery and I salted the front path ,then it rained and within minutes the path was an ice rink even the chickens cant walk on them without sliding.Our roads were gritted but the rains frozen on ungritted patches I live nr Rosehall .Lairg/Bonner Bridge area ,we abandoned out plans to drive anywhere today

bitterly cold here near #Lairg , #Sutherland ,a thick layer of frost and grey and misty.its been colder overnight than the imaginary -1 the BBC forecast for last night ,at 4am I got up to put fuel on the fire(it runs our heating) and check the outside broody with the older chicks and it was so cold the coop door lock was frozen and because her chicks arent fully feathered I had put a hot water in their coop nr the door so that was the warmest place in the garden .My guess is it was around -5
