Contrary to popular misconception, Hedy did NOT invent , and the idea of frequency-hopping broad spectrum was originally developed by George , with whom Lamarr "collaborated".

From the , her "collaboration" looks like pilfering of his ideas and efforts. She was no saint and was no stranger to attention seeking, impulsive and destructive behaviour, and was an awful mother who adopted a , made his life hell, then got rid of him.

The invention was aimed at circumventing frequency-jamming tactics by the Axis powers during , but only made it into US Navy ships in 1962. Lamarr passionately supported the US anti-Nazi war effort after having escaped pre-WW2 Austria in 1937.

The invention was kept secret until 1985, .... Lamarr and Antheil jointly received the EFF award in 1997.

Hedy and George Antheil were posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014.
