I acknowledge that within London, Ontario, the land on which I live and work is the traditional and unceded territory of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Attawandaron First Nation peoples.

I was born in the City of St. Catharines, the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe First Nation peoples.

This land acknowledgement is essential: it reminds us that our excellent standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous people in our community – and indeed across the nations.

Jully Black changed the lyrics of our national anthem from "Our home and native land" to "Our home ON native land" & personally, I love it. I'm definitely good with permanently changing it.

The 1619 Project was effective in clearly communicating basic US history to the public. So much so it triggered the CRT backlash.

It is amazing to me that the erasure of Native Americans from American history has been so successful. It is possible for a student to graduate with a high school diploma in Florida and not have a clue about native peoples.

New Amsterdam, New York City, was founded in 1624. Maybe an opportunity to highlight
the history.

It is interesting you are talking about The Cloisters. About a twenty minute walk away is a memorial on the spot where Peter Minuet purchased Manhattan from a group of day tripping Canarsie Indians in 1624. Image: stone memorial Shorakkopch Rock.

We were last at the main Met #Museum just before the pandemic, but yesterday, we made a little holiday outing to The Cloisters, to see old favorites in the great #medieval #art #collections--and get a few ideas for classes.

New there was a #LandAcknowledgement, which manages to be both prominently placed (in the ticket/entry area) yet easy to miss (low-contrast engraved text on white plaque).
