I used to complain about #hawks staking out my #bird feeders, but lately Biff (the #BlueJay bully) no longer wastes time harassing the other #birds. He gets his food and runs.
And it's not just because of Ripley (the angry #NorthernFlicker). Biff is afraid of hawks, as he should be.
I read an article about hawks and #hummingbirds. #Bluejays eat #hummingbird eggs, but hawks eat Bluejays, and hawks *don't* eat hummingbirds.
It's a #LandscapeOfFear type situation: More hawks, more hummingbirds.

Remember that #BlueJay, I named Biff, who's always bullying the other #birds? Just now, I saw a Northern Flicker kick his ass all the way back to the fence line. Then she perched on top of a feeder poles and did a little You-Want-Some-More? pose.
I've seen her around before. She doesn't even eat from the bird feeders. She's a ground feeding woodpecker. She was just tried of his nonsense.
I've named her Ripley, for no particular reason.
