One state, BW, in Germany took the opportunity with the reform of the property taxes to implement something like a Land Value Tax (at a very moderate 1.3‰ rate) and it is doing exactly what it should be doing.

Martin Wolf (FT) argues we should, noting (see below) that land - the central non-produced 'asset' now represents over half of all #wealth in the UK;

the logic of the tax (much like a #windfalltax) is that increases in value have required no effort (other than actual ownership) from its holders... there's an interesting valuation process issue to resolve of course (which is also impacting the fairness of council tax) but an interesting prospect nonetheless!
