I managed to whittle down the anki deck that had a lot of backed up reviews. Now I can worry only about reading, listening and finding entertaining things to watch. :D

Spanish - Main Deck　a.k.a comprehension (37 reviews and 15 new cards)
Spanish - Active Recall (136*... too many...)

I'm trying to break my active recall deck down into a lower review number like I did with my main deck lol. If I can take my main deck from 670+ then I am sure I can do my active recall as well. It's a lot harder for me than the comprehension but it helps collocations/chunks/small set phrases and other things stick so it's not as fuzzy.

Comprehension has been great for understanding but I haven't been able to pull out much reilably until I started active recall. (For reference, you experience active recall when you talk to people or talk to yourself.)

It's helping me build a little bit of confidence for speaking and I have started to join some group classes to practice talking in front of other people.

Slowly but surely. Even though I know the answers to some things I panic and say the wrong thing or pick the wrong answer, it sucks. 😂​ We live and learn though...

The collection of telenovelas on YouTube is quite vast. Now I can put something in in the background and watch it without being too intensive.

With shorter series I'm intensive because episodes are limited to a small amount.

Telenovelas are like 10x that amount or more so I can be a little more relaxed.

I'm kind of excited to try and find something that gels well with me.

If only British soap operas were on YouTube like this there would be so much content to learn from...well turns out there is ... it'll so if anyone wants to acquire an east-end London accent or practice listening to British accents there are many episodes...

It makes me wonder what other languages have full soap operas on YouTube because I can imagine it would be helpful.

too many reviews and new cards are on hold for now...I stopped anki for a month or so... and have just regained control of my main deck... so I'll begin with the active recall again. My active recall deck focuses on collocations / chunks / small set phrases and things to build sentences with.

Gold lists:
I should visit those sooner or later haha.

Immersion:
I've started to have fun in spanish...I can get the gist of some things that are familiar to me like art and daily life. I'm still learning a few new words here and there, like I learned the word for watercolour a couple of days ago and that's pretty useful to me because I really enjoy painting with watercolours. :D

Topics:
I'm trying to revisit old things I had learned in the past to broaden my understanding. E.g the weather... I can talk about the weather but understanding weather forecasts? Idk, it needs work. Lots of listening to do.

I'm continuing this thread to motivate myself to finish this Anki deck that i haven't touched for over a month and a half or something silly.

The number rose to 675 reviews haha. i know I can do it if I chip away little by little. Most cards are actually getting to the point where they are being retired after I review them because I still remember them.

Others are converting from text cards to audio cards so I get to practice both. Once I do well with the audio version of the card it retires... so unless I add a heap more, reviews shouldn't get this high for a while haha.

I do have a bunch of sentences, fragments and chunks I need to add though. 👀​

Here's a positive little post on the statistics of my #reading progress for #Spanish and #German... I have only started to learn a few German words.

I'm going to keep going. Eventually I'll see if I have the courage to tackle converting #Japanese texts for this format too lol.

It's not been too long since I've started with this, there is some dummy data in there for Japanese and #korean I still keep finding Spanish words I know off the bat. I'm on the cautious side with some Spanish words before I truly mark them as known though!

I would like to do more #Dutch but I'm surrounded by German so it's more fun and practical for me right now. I'm still going to keep my German learning casual and focus more on my main languages Japanese and Spanish. I'm trying to clear out some of my life's priorities before fully hopping back on the horse with Japanese because it's a bigger time sink than the other languages but I'm soooo fucking excited for it.

This is probably a bad idea but I'm trying to use #ChatGPT to generate some short stories (a paragraph or two long) in my target language to practice some of my reading.

I know not everything will be correct but I may share a collection of them at some point.

I'm very shy writing and speaking, sometimes I disappear for weeks or a month at a time which is probably hard for maintaining a relationship with an exchange partner.

So I can take my time in practicing what I already know and then eventually find myself a real language partner to chat to.

It's very interesting so far.

I'm poor so I'm trying out LWT (Learning with Texts). A long time ago I used LingQ and I would recommend it for sure, you don't have to install anything unless you want to use the mobile app.

I miss it so I'm using LWT and seeing how I get on with that.

I used Migaku for a time but again, no monies so here we go with a new chapter trying out LWT. It was a bit annoying to get it to work with MAMP so I used docker instead and it was so much easier. 😭😭😭

I'm toying around with Migaku's graduation feature.

After a 30-day interval: I'm having my cards switch from being sentence cards to audio sentence cards.

Suspending them after 30 days has helped to keep my daily reviews fairly low.

Not sure if I should just do the audio ones first and then switch them to being sentence cards you read but I'll toy with them for a while.

Have any of you used audio sentence cards in anki much?

Someone shared how to get transcriptions from podcasts using some AI scripts on your computer or Google collab if you don’t have a stringer machine. I’m going to run some tests today and see how well the model works. I look forward to it for Japanese podcasts because that’s confirmed as working, gonna try Spanish and maybe report back if I get around to it.
