Just found out the Drops vocabulary/language learning app had Galician/Galego. Although not very difficult for me to understand as I am in Northern Portugal, there are some different terms so kudos to Drops.

Here’s the before and after #languageDrops #glyphs for a couple of #Hawaii’s volcanoes. A brightly colored state flag has been added, and the shapes of the mountains have changed quite a bit.

Here’s the before and after #languageDrops #glyphs for #kukui — the #candlenut. Nice improvement over the original, with shading and the #botanical style cutaway showing the double nut inside.

Here’s the before and after #languageDrops #glyphs for #Kalua #Pig — this one is great improvement, the original could be any kind of sloppy sandwich, while the new one is specifically shredded pork.

Excitement at #languageDrops, they dropped a bunch of picture updates in the #Hawaiian #language course! A month ago I grabbed some screenshots like the one below of the #humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa and I would like to share side by side with the updated versions! The humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa picture is hardly different at all, but some of the other ones are much improved.

#languageDrops has “pou kuhi ʻaoʻao” for “direction post” which is probably a better description of the photo
To finish up my week of tooting about the #LanguageDrops app, I’ll add that they also allow you to flag errors. When I first started using it, the cartoon for “they” was labeled wrong. I can’t remember if it was “lāua” with a picture of three people, or “lākou” with the picture of two people, but I flagged it, and about a month later they fixed it! Unfortunately, there is still only one drill for the words “they” and “theirs.” #OleloHawaii #LearnHawaiian #olelo #hawaii #languageLearning

Another example of the #LanguageDrops cartoons. Since one of the drawbacks I mentioned about Drops is that they only have words they can make images for—I have to admit they do a pretty good job making images for some abstractions. I thought this was a nice example from the “Business” unit: “hoʻokuʻu au” meaning “I fire” #hawaiianLanguage #LearnHawaiian

More on the #LanguageDrops app: It has a “Collection” tab listing all the words you’ve learned so far, which is searchable! & look what I discovered when going back to look for yesterday’s word! What do a #triggerfish and a #sewingMachine have in common? #hawaiianLanguage #olelo #oleloHawaii #LearnHawaiian

Since I’ve been tooting about #LanguageDrops in the past few days, I thought I would include a few screenshots from the #Hawaiian course. First up, yes, they indeed have Hawaiian specific vocabulary, with appropriate graphics! This humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa is a lovely example.
:blobcatbook: After learning that the #german course in #languageDrops has 3700 words, I reached out to a friend who I thought had probably finished the #Hawaiian course by now, and she had, and she said they were 1500 words. So unfortunately, I only have 250 left to go before it’s all review, unless I get lucky and they start adding new content. :blobcatreach: #hawaiianLanguage #olelo #oleloHawaii #LearnHawaiian

@Makikigirl con of #LanguageDrops is that all the vocabulary words are matched to a drawing or a cartoon, so they tend to avoid words that are hard to visualize/glyphify.
@Makikigirl another pro of #LanguageDrops is that it has LOT of languages. Not a lot of language learning apps include #Hawaiian. Drops even has #Cantonese!
#languagedrops #hawaiian #cantonese
@Makikigirl #languagedrops app is vocabulary drill only (no grammar or sentences) but I am enjoying it & getting a lot out of it! The lessons are exactly 5 minutes long and there’s no rushing, it’s just whatever words you get through in that five minute block of time. I find it much more soothing than #Duolingo which is so gamified there’s an element of stress :blobcatohno: I am paying $30 a year and I think there’s just a one week free trial so give it a try!
