2. to suddenly remove (a person) from an important position or office.
Both meanings come from the same incident the word was coined to describe: The "Defenestration of Prague," May 21st 1618, two Catholic deputies to the Bohemian national assembly and a secretary were tossed out the window of the castle of Hradschin.
