Is there a word in English that you’ve always wanted to use but never found a chance?
I’ll go first: mellifluous
(And that’s me who manages to regularly use things like “artifact” or “onomatopoeia” in non-academic conversation)

Also if I was being a little obtuse in my explanation, basically what it does is it expresses that all the things in the group of things being mentioned or all the parts of the single thing being mentioned has that quality.
So "carruur yaryar" means "small children", where all the children in the group are small, I suppose.
Anyway I love it. I'm curious how much it's used since it's non-obligatory, but I'm happy to have learned about it!

@GiantBritishPuppy Grammatically, the second one is in the middle, not passive voice, as your back blew itself out without an agent. "your back was blown out" would be passive.
@AnneTheWriter1 you got a follow for many reasons but also, as a fellow writer, love your intro. #OxfordCommas
Didn't use to like them and then.. technical writing taught me why they are essential and avoid confusion. Even in the legal sense, they prevent court cases and save lives.

Tiny linguistic triumph today: Noticed an inconsistency in a #Pali verse: "Tanhaya japati soko, tanhaya jayati bhayam" meaning "Craving begets sorrow, craving begets fear." Realized it should be 'jayati' in both instances, and indeed, other sources confirmed it. Caught a typo? #LanguageNerd https://www.tipitaka.net/tipitaka/dhp/verseload.php?verse=216#:~:text=Verse%20216%3A%20Craving%20begets%20sorrow,there%20be%20fear%20for%20him%3F

I'm a programmer who often works on Natural Language.
Today, I've been obsessed with the word "So". It can be used in a lot of different ways to mean very different things. I also (pun intended) never thought about its relationship to "Also". What an odd word! 🤔

#Shadowrun 5 livre de règles obtained. I am combining learning the rules with getting back into French by reading quite technical text blocks...
What? Me, scared of crossing the Röschtigraabe without proper enunciation and vocabulary? No, not at all, how could this even occur to you?

Call me a #nerd if you will, but this course book "Language Families of the World" is a great listen if you enjoy the study of #linguistics (which I didn't know I did until now). The audio book is actually making me laugh out loud, in case you happen to see me driving along laughing alone in the car. So I guess that makes me a #languagenerd.
