I don't know, but for some reason the Firefox translation feature has already been shipped to me, though still marked as Beta. It works pretty well, with a few hick-ups here and there like untranslated words, forgotten whitespace, or inappropriate decapitalization, but otherwise it's really fine.

If you post in different languages on mastodon, how should you do it?
Is it enough to change the posting language when composing the post, or should you also add a hashtag with the language?
And if so, in which language should the hashtag be?
Or maybe the top level domain letters?
Or both change the posting language and add a hashtag?
🤔🤷🏼♂️✍️

I’m reading lots of Hebrew correspondence from the early 20th. A frequent acronym they use for God is השי״ת (ה׳ יתברך). It means “God, blessed be he.” But I can’t help but read it phonetically: hashit, which would mean “the shit.” #hebrew #jewish #Mazeldon #languages #language #god #religion

Part of the reason why I’m learning Cantonese more seriously this year is that when I hear instructions for tai chi or Buddhism in English, it makes me very uncomfortable. Like, it’s just the wrong language and I don’t feel connected to it. Same as with someone saying romantic things to me in Mandarin (Mandarin is the language of teachers and taxi drivers yelling at me. No intimacy allowed in it)

I wish I had this picture last time I tried learning Lojban. I had only a text description, which I understood, but kept forgetting what's what down the road. And those words are used quite a lot.

Language is a bit complicated here. Depending on the valley you’re in, people will speak Italian, German or Ladin. That’s why a lot of these mountains have 2 or 3 names.

The interesting thing is thinking "hey, if skål is bowl, and bowls are a little like the shape of a skull, then are those two words linked in Old Norse or Old English?" and... not directly, but there are lots of Northern European languages using the same kind of word for the head area!
The best thing is googling skål for visual confirmation and finding it written on things that are NOT bowls, like cups and water bottles and coasters.
