I got rather confused after reading 'she bottomed out' in a sex scene description of a sapphic romance novel for the first time because I imagined this as lifting one's butt (as in 'taking one's bottom out of the action that is taking place underneath') and it didn't resonate with the actions described before and after this phrase. Only after I looked it up and it turned out to be an idiom meaning 'the bottom of the car hitting the ground' did it start to make sense 😆.
