While I finished the light extension for the lantern 🥳, documenting it and creating the project pages will take a couple of days. 😅

1. Using LED modules from a scratch piece of LED strip (see photo).
2. Short snippets of LED strips.
3. A fancy version with WS2812B RGB LED chips and a microcontroller to drive them (providing an Arduino-based firmware)

Today I updated the stand for the modular lantern. A new variant of the foot part, LR2268-45B, adds alignment holes and a groove for attachments and lids.

I also designed two matching lids that perfectly close the hollow area in the foot.

Today I published a new set of side panels for my modular lantern system. It is a simple one-colour print that supports using more colours.

The panels feature a heart theme, with four hearts arranged like a four-leaf clover.

3d printed light diffusers are another fascinating area for research. The nature of transparent filament, printed in lines, creates mesmerising light effects — the light fractures in different patterns by changing the print patterns and orientation of these lines.

The feature to add rough surfaces creates effective diffusers.

The photos show the effect with a simple light-bulb-shaped diffuser with a rough surface inside and outside.

Currently, I am investigating the best and cheapest ways to add an LED light to my 3d printed lantern.

These too-short cut-offs of LED strips finally get a use.

My goal is to create a solution powered by the 5V from a reused USB cable that is cheap, and everyone can build it.

(I used a Tiffen star filter in front of the lens, to create these light effects shown in the photos)
