@mos_8502 Mine are #machining tools, but mostly also hand.
The centerpiece (which I used all the time ~10y ago, but hardly at all lately) is a restored 1954 10" #southbend #lathe
I'm finally using the bow #lathe I made for its first project: to pegs for a hat rack. The pegs are in production order from left to right. I'm still getting the hang of it so they're p inconsistent.

In a trivially productive day, I made a couple of spool pins (5mm diameter) for a #sewing machine, out of some exotic hardwoods - Wenge (dark striped) and Zebrawood (cut on an angle).
This entirely justifies not throwing out even the smallest scrap of wood, because it might be useful!
See attached pic as proof 😂

@trevorflowers I used exactly this. At the time (~10y ago) there was a guy who was reselling squeeze bottles of them on the #southbend #lathe mailing list.
I don't immediately see a link, but if you can find the mailing list archives the address might be in there. These small #machining outfits are probably impossible to find with google in their current state.
What a beautifully simple yet completely functional wood lathe.
I need to do some robotics and I'm looking at this little lathe:
I'll be working in brass or aluminium. Steel might be interesting but I don't hold much hope for that.
I have never used nor owned a lathe. This ticks the boxes of low-price, compact and 12v..
What I want to do is to use it initially to drill 2mm holes in a strip of aluminium, every half inch.
I don't want to do 3D printing - I'd rather use a mechanical method of doing all the stuff I wantto.
WHat are the problems associated with this lathe? Where could I get tools and a vice for it?
My biggest bowl…
Won't try something bigger. It's not the lathe – it's me. This 50 cm diameter birch was heavy!!
The lathe can do 80 cm over the bed, with turning the headstock even bigger. #woodturning #bowl #trees #woodworking #craft #wood #lathe

It's not obvious to see how this recent acquisition might become an obsession but then, you don't know me, I obsess easily 😉
In 1984 I took a job as a design engineer with an electrical switchgear company called Dorman Smith in Preston.
The Design manager then was Doug Eaves, a man we all liked and respected.
Doug died last year in his eighties and a mutual friend who was helping his wife to clear his workshop prior to a house move offered me his old lathe.
I find there's something special about taking on another person's tools. It makes me think of how they worked, the ideas for the projects that claimed their waking thoughts.
I already had several projects on but as I start the refurbishment of this useful tool it's quickly become my new obsession.
One thing's for sure, it won't be red when I've finished.

Thanks to Êostre I had time to finally fix the jaws on my #lathe chuck. I was going to grind them in place, as seen on the internet, but with the size of this wee boi it was too difficult. Also, fitting the Dremel to the cross slide rigidly enough proved to be more work than it was worth. In the end I just took the jaws out and hand-ground them, recursively checking for runout as you do with a 4 jaw chuck. Ended up with less than 0.02mm and no bell-mouth which will do me fine.
Yes, that's a socket wrench because a proper test bar would cost more than the lathe did. #ShedEngineering #crapMetrology #machining

About the same amount of time will be spent as turning it away, but with much LESS SHAVINGS!!!
And with two more bowls. Info in captions: Alt.text

Clients in the Clinic
Ref. yesterdays post. Reporting introductory healing on the lathe and onwards to a long rest, wrapped up and put to sleep in a paperbag.
This time I have skipped the bandsaw phase, turning the outside and making the tenon (ref. even earlier posts). Each photo/phase in the clinic described in alt. text.

Well, #MachinerysHandbook has let me down for the first time in about two decades. All I wanted to know was the nominal diameter of a brass rod if I want to #die-thread it for #6-32 using a standard #SAE die.
It 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 I can use ⌀ 0.125" if I'm careful, move slowly, clear the die frequently, and use a lot of #TapMagic. I have several inches to thread, so I'm extra glad I have my #lathe and #tailstock for rigidity and control. (Never threaded on the lathe. Yet.)

Wild Cherry – Yesterdays haul on the lathe
Soooo nice to turn, soft – sooo nice cherry smell on the go.
Still no sign of decay either, after several years waiting outside in all weathers. Softened like a beef?

Woodhunting
Inspired by @tipslave and his new cherry spatulas. Aha!
Time to pick up some blanks. These remains have been here, in the shadow behind my container, for three years now, almost forgotten. This is the wild-growing form, subsp. avium. Interesting find: No cracs!? A tiny rotten marrow seems to have been very beneficial.
