On the recommendation of a chance-met fellow SciFi obsessive I've been reading my way through Charles Stross' #LaundryFiles series, an unholy ( really) dystopian mix of Lovecraft, Le Carré and 007.
Now I keep finding myself thinking that the news headlines refer to storylines in the books, because the dystopia we're living in is almost as terrifying .

Having finally gotten around to reading Gibson's The Peripheral, continuing my #Discworld reread by reading Wintersmith, I am back on my #LaundryFiles catch up with this... #books #reading

Ok, gotta leave the cafe and get home. The heat is picking up and the audiobook is on to #theConcreteJungle now. That’s my cue to the passage on time and the climbing temperature.

I’m #walking before the temperature really picks up, re-reading (re-listening) the #laundryFiles .
Gonna give myself a pat on the shoulder because I walked for the majority of the #atrocityArchives this week, so I’ve gotten some steps in. 😆

Thirteen books into @cstross 's #LaundryFiles and I *still* haven't figured out how "geas" is pronounced.

I went in a hunt for a pair of combat boots today and couldn't find anything. Realized I should just buy a good pair of Docs... I've had them on the brain because I'm rereading #LaundryFiles novels and they get mentioned a bit. Found some in my size on sale.
I'm re-reading the #LaundryFiles and I came across this gem:
She writes rapidly, in a formal dialect of Old Enochian. The featureless plain provides syntax completion and automatic indentation: as she scribes, some of the words change shape and hue subtly. (There are many (many (nested)) parentheses: ritual magic, realtime spell-casting, hasn't been the same since John McCarthy.)

still running down old blog entries of mine. This (from 2019) is probably fully realizable in the #Laundryverse with 2023 technology. #laundryFiles #fanFiction

Deep Stare (Wu, Angelov, Soleymani)
Technology like Deep Convolutional Networks, AGAINs, and the like have made it possible to create plausible images from archetypes. Deep Stare, if its promise can be realized, will allow remote / non-line-of-sight deployment of STARE technology against enemies of the state. All that is required is an accurate image generating model, coupled with petascale iteration, to neutralize a threat based on a description. Imagine that you can simply input "a 25-year old caucasian male insurgent stands in front of a High street shop, waiting for the right moment to unleash the demonic threads even now coiling in his belly", and before he can act, he is turned into radioactive slag.

I really want to take a look at hacking #ApocalypseKeys to be something more #LaundryFiles like. I could keep it so that the PCs are still monsters, but I'd do something with the mysteries and doors to be missions.
I needed a lot of time and reading many project management articles to realize the double meaning of a spike on vampirism in a #LaundryFiles novel of Charles Stross.
I though a spike is just what a scrum team does if they find a new issue like vampirism and cannot estimate the work needed to handle it.
Today's idle thought. What if the Catholic church and the American quiverfull denominations are so anti-birth control because they're trying to breed as many seventh sons of a seventh son as possible for their holy sorcerer cadres?
Feels a very #laundryfiles thought, or similar urban cosmic horror.
After jumping through more hoops than expected (the #kobo web shop is a hot mess but seems to be the least bad option) I finally have the latest 2 #LaundryFiles books as legal, DRM-free epub files in #calibre. Not being a #Pirate gets harder every year.

James Bond the Lovecraftian computer hacker. Just finished reading The Atrocity Archives and The Concrete Jungle, the first two of The Laundry Files by Charles Stross. A great premise and really entertaining. I'll be reading more of this series. Thanks @cstross!
