My Wordle score as the number of people in an artwork. Today it's, 'La Goulue arriving at the Moulin Rouge' by Toulouse-Lautrec. La Goulue (the glutton) was the stage name of Louise Weber, the most successful can-can dancer of her time and known as the Queen of Montmartre. Her stage name came about because as an adolescent, she was known for guzzling cabaret patrons’ drinks while dancing. Toulouse-Lautrec considered this work to be the best of his dance-hall paintings.
When the Moulin Rouge opened in 1889, one of Lautrec's paintings was displayed near the entrance. It was commissions for the Mouoin Rouge that launched his postermaking career and made him famous as he highlighted star performers, the "boneless" acrobat Valentin le Désossé and here La Goulue, "the glutton," whose cancan skirts were lifted at the finale of the chahut.
