I’m not really a big fan of Anne #Applebaum. But Twilight of #Democracy contains a lot of good information on #LawandJustice (#PiS) in #Poland and #Fidesz in #Hungary. I do think she should’ve been more critical. But besides this complaint it’s worth reading.

A civil society is not an authoritarian one. We know this because the Murdoch press agrees small governments ( better no government) must not interfere with commerce. So it is no surprise to learn in today’s Saturday Paper the NSW government agrees commerce should not be inconvenienced for a moment. The sentencing of climate activist Violet CoCo by Royce Kurmelows and Jon Kudelka’s cartoon suggest this is the way they like it, but I seem to remember the Liberal view is, the individual must enjoy the same freedoms. It just goes to show government is tough when your masters control the purse.
