Born To Be Bad (1959), one of the many sleaze novels Lawrence Block wrote under the name Sheldon Lord, before he established himself as a major crime writer.

A slightly noirish melodrama that deals with human relationships in an honest and grown-up way. With an intriguing complex heroine.

Borderline (AKA Border Lust) is an early (1962) Lawrence Block crime novel.

It's either a sleaze novel with significant noir overtones or a noir novel with significant sleaze overtones.

The border is the US-Mexico border, but also the border between sanity and madness, between self-control and debauchery, between order and chaos.

Good, but very nihilistic.

Lawrence Block recently published his latest novel THE BURGLAR WHO MET FREDRIC BROWN and here is an article in which Block writes about his love for Brown's crime fiction.

It's nuggets like this that on occasion makes me realise that I am not alone.

#Writing #HowTo #books For #genre #fiction, I recommend Telling Lies for Fun and Profit by #LawrenceBlock For a literary, academic bent, The Art of Fiction: Notes on Craft for Young Writers by John Gardner. (By "Young," Gardner meant starting novelists, not children. I bought this book as a child and didn't grasp it until graduate school.)
