New from Lawprofblawg and Tempdean: A Modest Proposal For Law Review Reform. Well--law professor reform, maybe.

@design_law I don't really know when it starts; it seems to be August 1-ish. But Stanford kind of jumpstarted things last year with their July 15 date, so who knows what will happen this year.
Some mainline law reviews are simply closed in the summer.
I've found that specialty journals (well, tech, anyway) are more active in the summer cycle than mainline.

@design_law It turns out the number of folks acknowledged in your star footnote, as well as who they are, matters (some, probably, at some places) to placement!

For thoughts on biases in this process (w/ J. Tietz & K. Nunna): https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4015928

PSA for law profs or others w/ MANY tracked edits (e.g., law review edits):
In Word, you can
1) hide all tracked formatting changes
2) JUST show formatting changes (& accept all changes shown)
3) show edits from just one author (useful w/ round-robin coediting).
Woot!
(reposted from FB 2 years ago, thanks for the memories!)

How the Law Review Grind Makes Legal Scholarship Worse Legal intellectuals have been complaining about law reviews for decades. Famed federal appeals court Judge Richard Posner wrote about the “ignorance, immaturity, inexperience, and inadequate incentives” of law reviews back in the mid-90s. Perhaps that’s why a 2007 analysis by San Diego Law Professor Thomas Smith suggested that about 40 percent of all law review publications have not been cited once…” https://www.bespacific.com/how-the-law-review-grind-makes-legal-scholarship-worse/ #LawReviews
Hello Lawprofs! As you probably know, hashtags are important for discovering content on Mastodon, which doesn't have full-text search by default. Here are a few you might find useful:
#papers - plug your new paper/book or flag someone else's
#conferences - announce upcoming conferences or workshops
#cfp - calls for papers
#hiring - announce or flag job openings
#teaching - discussions of classroom technique or materials
#lawreviews - discussions of the submission process and related topics

What if, instead of fetishizing "novel" and "the first", #lawreviews prioritized engagement with the scholars who have written on those topics. Tbh, when I see an article claiming to be novel, I'm thinking of all the articles I've read addressing the same topic.
