Expectations from lawyers can be very bizarre. I am visiting a foreign country right now, and during some health-related procedures, the physician gets mad at me because I am a lawyer and am unaware of some local health regulations. I am unaware of many health regulations in my home country, too. Why should I? Am I an old-fashioned computer program uploaded with all the sovereign states’ local rules?

I think I am not. I never memorize the provisions of laws or regulations. As a lawyer, I know the main principles, where to look for details, and the analysis methods, and I do my research. My work is to solve problems or ensure the optimization of risks, and laws or regulations are only a variable in those equations with many unknowns. As a patient, on the other hand, I am equal to all other patients, whether an architect, a teacher, an engineer, a housewife, or a student.
