Companies thinking they are re-asserting their power in the employer-employee relationship by these callous, needless layoffs are going to get a rude awakening:

1) Laid-off employees were potential clients/customers/vendors
2) Employees are human beings first and foremost and will remember how they were treated
3) Workers across every industry now see why unions and having a collective voice is a vital worker protection.
4) The stain against employer reputation will last - people are talking and sharing their experiences online.

Saying "I take full responsibility" while, at the same time, suffering no detrimental consequences is basically the CEO's version of "sending thoughts and prayers".

You admit to making a mistake, but instead of you taking the hit, you sacrifice workers who had absolutely no role in you making your bad decision.
