More Lego LDraw renders! The UCS Star Destroyer was one of the first models I tested with when making some improvements to the three.js LDrawLoader. 3000+ pieces and over 4 million polygons rendered with the three.js pathtracer.
I grabbed some LDraw Lego models from my childhood era to render with three-gpu-pathtracer and using volume transmission for the translucent parts really looks amazing. The models look so good!

Today, i've tried my hand at Lego model instructions making, and it turned out to be more fun than I expected :) It is an (Android) tablet holder, here it is: https://pierre.palatin.fr/tabletholder.pdf ; no a super interesting model, it was just to try things out.
I'm absolutely no Lego builder (at all) but somehow a few years ago my first attempt at making a tablet holder was successful: it is stable and we used it more than I expected (i.e., > 0).
Such a basic model was the perfect thing to try out model building on computer & instruction making. I've used LDCad (http://www.melkert.net/LDCad) for assembly and LPub3D (https://trevorsandy.github.io/lpub3d/) for making the instructions.
I was told that Bricklink Studio was simpler to get started with but I was too lazy to make it work on Linux, so I went directly for LDCad. The UI is peculiar (as software for specific hobbies tend to be) but in the end it was not too bad to get started.
LPub3D was more of a mixed-bag. So far, I've been unable to get a non-empty front page, the camera manipulation in the visual editor is behaving erratically and there are crashes. But overall, that did the trick and has plenty of features - even including fancy callouts for hard-to-see parts :) And that did made me learn a bit about the file format.
So, that was fun, and I still have no plan to do more models. Though now I think of it, I need to extend a train track for a model.
