Addendum: The #Amazigh (AKA #Berber) people use a variant of the #JulianCalendar to date traditional festivals; in this calendar, #LeapDay is added to the last month rather than the second one. Amazigh in #Morocco and #Libya celebrate traditional New Year the day after those in #Algeria, where it is a national holiday.

Red is the more popular color for trooping #fairies. As a result, the color was considered unlucky, even when on clothing or scarves worn by humans: Women wearing red petticoats were avoided in the west of #Ireland until recent times.

Women's right to propose on 29th February goes back hundreds of years. In Scotland, women should traditionally wear a red petticoat, like this 1758 quilted example from @CTHistorical@twitter.com, to ensure success when popping the question. #LeapDay #LeapYear2020 #fashionhistory #petticoat

Our Gregorian Calendar is built from regularity. March has always 31 days, June 30, et cetera.
This results in regularity. If 4 April is a Thursday, 19 September will also be a Thursday and if 3 June is a Sunday, 23 December will also be a Sunday in that year.
But there is one exeption..... the #leapday.
If 23 January is a Wednesday, 10 April will also be a Wednesday, but NOT if it is a leap year. Then will 10 April be a Thursday....
If June 22 is a Monday, February 8 in the following year will ALWAYS be a Monday too. This is because there will never be a leap day between these dates.
In these calculations, there period between February 28 and March 1 is like a 'gap' and January and February belong to the previous year.
Today is #leapday people πΈπ
One extra day to do something special and a great chance to support an important cause βπ

Wet and rainy today. But I found my first (in ten or so years) #geocache
I'll give it some time and maybe find some more before I call myself a #geocacher
Having a fun #leapday so far π
