I knew about but I only found out 2-3 years ago that exists.

I'm posting this just so you know too (if you haven't already) that this could be one of the reasons why you or someone you know struggles.

It never occurred to me that I might have a . When I try to do any math(s) the numbers run around like a coop full of startled chickens.

I'm still not sure if I have dyscalculia, but at some point when I have the energy to do it, I'll have it tested.

'Our editorial ethos is driven by our belief in the right for people to thrive in their communities'

Extraordinarily proud of having worked on the launch of this new site, for a small but strong title run by a charitable trust.

Vital for all interested in learning disability, equality and inclusion.

I've been offline, looking at stuff to do potential, and creating the kind of support that enables people to do good things - or just regular things so they can get on with their lives.

And this case is the total, shameful opposite.

A bereaved family spent six years fighting. Another bereaved family. Six years.

This was a sobering (devastating) issue to report on:

The UK government’s 'blanket erasure' of older people with learning disabilities is leaving a growing population unsupported and piling further pressure on family carers.

Grateful for insights from and the light being shone by @sarasiobhan and team and Dawn from campaigning self-advocacy charity My Life My Choice.

'People think that we should buy something cheap, something that they would not have in their own home. So it is OK for you to live in a fancy house with furniture you like, but you don’t think twice about putting people with learning disabilities in a hostel-type setting?'

Shalim Ali, part of the Feeling At Home study team, wrote about the work and what drives his interest in it.

I just saw this new show in London: photography by people with learning disabilities on what makes them feel 'at home'.

The words and pictures from the 19 photographers range from the joyful to the stark.

Like this submission that really got me - a shot of a crack in the wall. People expect others to live in places they'd hate to live.

The show's on till May 6, Science Gallery, King's College London.

'It is vital that, wherever and whenever possible, our collective voices are raised'.

Thrilled that award-winning writer Mary O'Hara has joined Community Living as part of our ongoing editorial development.

Her 'lessons from America' column will compare learning disability issues in the UK and US.

An art exhibition at Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire will showcase the work of people who 'think differently' - those with brain injuries, ADHD, dementia, Autism etc. The theme of diversity works well in the setting of an Arboretum which prides itself on a diverse collection of trees and shrubs.

I couldn’t remember “Kanji”and history ,Kanji since 2nd grade, history class since I got in middle school. I was planning to learn Chemistry at University. But had a glitch at entrance exam, which lead me learn political science. (Which needed Japanese, English, Math-Instead of Social study-for exam). It was before computer. I managed to remember everything(?) since WWII by cramming which I was good at. But I don’t think I understood history in real context. Something is lacking in my brain. (Kind of timeline) I’m now in my middle age, I don’t want to leave this world without understanding, but I cannot find people who has similar problem.

'As a black person with a learning disability, I’ve often wondered where I might fit as an activist.

'The lives and experiences of black British people like me are under‐represented in the UK history of learning disabilities.'

Great words from campaigner and self-advocate Paul Christian, shining a much-needed light.

Wrote this three years ago today.

Covid made enforced separation a universal experience, but there were additional challenges for people with learning disabilities and their families.

Grateful that much has changed for the better since then, but so many in this community still feel the disproportionate impact.

I regret not learning trigonometry in highschool, and am now willing to admit that this was a major cause of my dropping out of university

That being said, dropping out of college led to my attending yeshiva, which was the single best choice I've made in my life, in that it led to my meeting and marrying my lovely wife.

So while I regret not learning trig, I don't regret the life path which that lacking led to.

I also suffer from , so take that for what you will

Water spills onto the desk. I gasp and grab my calculus book away from potential harm. 🥹
Oh, how times have changed - the child who cried into their math homework wishing it would go away - is now rescuing their calculus book.
