Why #Anki kinda stinks for language learning. I don't know the content maker well at all, but his list is everything I found frustrating and ineffective about the app/program. It really derailed my novice Spanish studies. I don't recommend it anymore, _especially_ to folks with #adhd issues. He's inspiring me to get back to my old notebook methods, and I want to check out his routines further as well.

I've been trying to learn Spanish with both the Duolingo and Wlinga apps.

I like the structured approach of Wlinga. It explains important linguistic concepts, like why accent marks matter and verb tenses.

Duolingo is fun, but I feel like it pushes too fast without explaining the basics. It tends to throw in a lot of new vocabulary into its stories. You can figure out from context, but I feel like I'm not retaining the new vocab.

So I'm doing a mix of both - taking my time learning basics with Wlinga, and doing one exercise with Duolingo.

I also make up sentences and check them with Google translate. It's a bit more forgiving than I'd like, but a good general tool.

I know it's because of licensing hijinks, but it's really annoying to subscribe to Paramount Plus (to see #startrek) and find only the English language audio tracks there.

To watch Star Trek in Spanish, I have to start my VPN, claim to be from Mexico, and watch Star Trek on Netflix!

Many programs in the US *have* Spanish language tracks, but they aren't available in the US. Dios mio!

Do you like science fiction? I recently read "Proyecto Hail Mary", the Spanish translation of "Project Hail Mary", by Andy Weir.
I got both editions, since my Spanish is not very advanced, but I was pleasantly surprised at how far I could read sometimes without "cheating". And it's an absolutely fantastic book, if you're at all into scifi.

Hmm, cool...Live Transcribe on my phone will transcribe podcasts I'm playing too. And in Spanish even. Only drawback is no offline transcription for non-english languages. Ah well. Still, that's pretty handy for seeing if I got the translation right in my head...
