This was my third project, a hat that I got the design off of CreativeAwl from Etsy, but I dyed it differently and omitted parts. I was trying to replicate the flag around the sides of the hat... this was well before I discovered the right tools for making it easier to hand dye the leather. It was a heavier weight than called for, but it does work out with it being slightly tight and while I know that I could have improved the dye job, I was happy with how I cut, sewn, burnished, and finished the hat on both sides. I also made sure to put in craft wire in the brim so that the brim can be shaped as I wish.

The learning experience was that a proper wing divider would help make the stripes more uniform and I could have employed the idea of leather carving and cased the side piece to get more uniform hearts. I also learned that it's very important to pick the right weight of the leather when making something, because it might not fit exactly as it should.

That a large event can't appeal to everyone, and can't be everything everyone wants it to be. For most people their first Pride is always special, mine was. My first Pride walking in full Leathers was equally special.
