My Super Spotty Snow Capped Begonia.

Yes that outer pot is a bit small, I don't have a larger one currently.

It was so root bound in the small jar in which it had been grown that the roots and LECA had bonded, Photo is AFTER I broke its jar with a rubber mallet.

Here's my new Hoya, not here yet obviously because as you can see it's not in LECA which is my favourite medium. (My favourite XL too!).

A strange thing about Hoyas is the botanical names keep changing, which seems to happen every other week.

This one has changed from Hoya Purpureo-Fusca Java IML 0728
Hoya Cinnamonifolia var. Purpureo-Fusca IML 0728.

I have for years grown Pitcher plants in jars of Sphagnum moss, but last year I decided to try LECA.

I'm a fan of LECA for most plants including #Hoya, but I wasn't sure how my #Carnivorous plants would go in it, I moved a few plants to #LECA to see how they'd go.

What I've found is that #Pitcher plants love LECA, they grow even better in that than they would in moss, so I'll move them all to LECA soon.

I would not recommend it for Venus Fly Traps, I tried and lost the plants, the roots are too small and too close to the surface, so they fail to get enough water.

I haven't tried Sundews, but from memory they have long roots so should be ok.

I realized today that I have, and I'm not exaggerating, HUNDREDS of liters of #LECA in my home. Nearly every #plant I grow is in a passive #hydroponics setup.
