Started watching the old tv adaptation of Le Carre's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Made by the BBC in 1979 with Alec Guinness as George Smiley and Ian Richardson as Bill Hayden. Feels more like the novel - slow, subtle and complicated.

I try and try to follow John #LeCarre's THE HONOURABLE SCHOOLBOY, but I simply can't. Like many of his works, though, I simply enjoy getting lost in the writing, the settings, the mood and the characters. I trust there's a plot there.

#LeCarré’s letters paint a picture of a restless, searching, and divided soul, often at war with himself, sensitive to slights yet capable of great magnanimity; ingratiating in one moment, derisive in the next; variously indulgent and abstemious, garrulous and guarded. Season 2 of #SlowHorses just started on Apple TV, and it’s looking as good as the first. A faithful adaptation that, like the books, manages to deliver a story that’s both a tense spy thriller and a funny office comedy. Dirtbag #LeCarre.

And how do we compare fiction with biography, historical works, poets or eastern wonders. At best, you take a snapshot, reflect the tastes of the moment; then instantly regret your choices, experience guilt over the treasures omitted.

During the pandemic I started (re) #reading my way through my library. Finished #LeCarre, and now half way through #discworld .

I’m amazed at how much I had forgotten, some of the early Le Carre’s it was as if I had never read them before - quite nice in some respects - but also quite worrying 🤔
