The UMass Old Chapel had fallen on hard times, but the award-winning #restoration not only turned the former derelict building into a premier venue for lectures and receptions.

It also showcased the compatibility of #HistoricPreservation and #sustainability. The project earned #LEED Gold Certified status. That the building was added to the National Register demonstrates that improvements were in keeping with its historical significance and integrity. 7/n

One thing that wasn't surprising is that California has the most square footage of #LEED buildings by a substantial margin. Of the ~105k U.S. @USGBC@twitter.com #LEED buildings, I only got matches on ~67k from the original building information to lat/long and then ~44k to the final census tracts. The other surprise was how many U.S. counties appear to have no #LEED projects at all? 3/4 #sustainabledesign
