For weeks, the people of Lefkimi have felt helpless as almost 1,000 sq km of the forest that provided their homes and livelihoods burned.

“Send us planes now, otherwise it’ll come here,” one man pleads into the early evening sky.

Then, one after another, planes appear through the smoke over the hilltop, dousing the blaze.

On ward 411, there was an Albanian surname, a Russian woman pretending to be Ukrainian with no surname (the Albanian was elderly & learnt Russian under Hoja), my surname & two unrelated chaps from #Lefkimi but with the same surname. I hadn't realised that the good folk of north #Corfu had taken racial segregation to the point where Lefkimiotes patients are actually sickbayed with the other foreigners.
