From the latest episode with John Ousterhout:

"Life as a programmer is a series of confrontations with your own inadequacies"

Some lines don't just ring true, they hang in the air for an uncomfortably long time 😅.

@ctietze His book talks about testing a bit. He's also attended the meetup and talked about this in the past, and how his courses recommend not using mocks. goodreads.com/book/show/260884

@jbrains This topic has come up a couple of times during meetups, and I imagine those folks would be interested to attend as well. If you follow through, please advertise the the `` channel over at slack.legacycode.rocks.

I enjoyed recording an interview with @mscottford for the Legacy Code Rocks podcast! We connected the dots between legacy code and the impacts on the evolution of an organisation. You can listen to the episode here: buff.ly/3V8vILH

Are you interested in Software Bills of Material (SBOMs)? There's a team of researchers at the SEMERU (cs.wm.edu/semeru/) research lab with William and Mary (wm.edu/as/computerscience/) who are conducting a survey as part of their research into the topic.

I've been asked to share that survey with folks who might be interested in helping them out. You can find it here: wmsas.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/S

I plan on having the researchers on the podcast once they've compiled everything.

Mini-SPA, on February 21 in Leeds, UK, is something of a tasting menu for the British Computer Society’s Software Practice Advancement conference. I’ll be presenting “Strangle Your Legacy Code”.

A couple years ago, Adi Bolboacă and I remote-paired on "Trivia" in Perl. Now you can watch how we coped with frustrating network conditions and employed the "modulino" technique to get code under test. Enjoy(?)!

Announcing the initial 1.07 release of notqmail, a community-driven fork of that begins where netqmail left off: notqmail.org/1.07

Themes for this release:

- Fix broken builds (FreeBSD, macOS)
- Make packaging easier

I'm proud to be one of several developers bringing this valuable back to life. Here's my personal blog post telling this first chapter in the story of notqmail: schmonz.com/2019/08/20/announc

Whenever I see @Andrea Goulet and M. Scott Ford at conferences, we always have mind-opening and actionable conversations. I hope my new guest spot on their podcast, talking about definitions of , does some of that for you.
