As much as I enjoyed Legendborn, I was not prepared for how much I enjoyed Tracy Deonn’s follow up. The sequel to #Legendborn, #Bloodmarked, is better than the first one, which was already pretty good. This is the kind of reconsidered fantasy we need. And I say this as someone who generally does not care for #YA, especially written in the first person present tense.

Back in Nov. I got to meet THE Tracy Deonn at the launch of her #Bloodmarked tour, at Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill.
This woman quickly became my favorite author of all time after #reading #Legendborn earlier this year.
My inner child leaped for joy and I began to sob the moment I met her.
Even my non-reader hubby was inspired by her speech and let me know, “She’s amazing. I want you to do what she’s doing.”
I’m pretty sure that night changed our lives.

I thought I was too old for this story. Boy was I wrong.
#Legendborn has turned into a lifetime fav read. Not only did the setting of my home state being familiarity and nostalgia, but so many of the core themes hit me right in the heart.
Deonn’s commentary on grief alone is worth picking this up.
But so are the characters, the hard-hitting theme of identity, and a kick-ass magic system.
The audibook is well done! So grab that if you need to!

The #GoodreadsChoiceAwards proved to me that many of the #publishers and #readers who claim they want more #diversity are doing NOTHING to push that initiative forward.
In 2022, it shouldn’t be a panel of white authors winning across the board. It’s also a crime the most talked about #YAfantasy novel by a black woman didn’t win.

@clpolk @maryrobinette Mary Robinette Kowal's work is extraordinary and I believe this wholeheartedly. I've only read the Lady Astronaut series so far, but #TheSpareMan is on my TBR.

I just finished #Legendborn by Tracy Deonn and figured out *part* of the protagonist's Significant Past but there were more layers to it that I didn't see, and the Big Reveal was worthy of both tears (some leaked) and applause (not actually given because I was holding a tablet). Overall the relationships felt like standard YA but the protagonist's voice was compelling, and the prose and worldbuilding were top-notch.

I recently finished #Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn. It's the sequel to #Legendborn.

These books are YA Arthurian legend remixes with a Black girl protagonist. Adventure, fantasy, a little romance, great characters.

I read Legendborn in June and loved it. When Bloodmarked came out, I read it in less than a week. I couldn't put it down!
