Do you know that there are #meteor showers all over the year ? The most famous northern one is the #Perseids, happening in August.
In November, there is another one, called the #Leonids. It could be very spectacular, as seen in this #APOD #photography.
In 1833, the #Leonids reached up to 100,000 #ShootingStars per hour (~28 per second). Imagine 🤩

Has anyone seen any Leonids in the last few nights? I just saw one tonight by chance. I didn’t even know what they were, just knew I saw something red, green and BIG shoot through the sky while I was hanging out in my backyard. #Leonids #MeteorShower
Was the first clear night for a while so went Leonid spotting (something incredibly bright flashed across the sky at the periphery of my vision) and said hello to Leo and friends #northumberland #leonids
Went out to look for stray #Leonids with the fam. They saw a couple (I saw none) but snagged a quick pic of Jupiter and moons. #AstroPhotography
Lots of faint #Leonids from our @diasdunsink south-facing camera too! The slow-moving things are all planes and satellites, but the very brief flashes are nearly all #meteors. Hope some of you saw them live!

from NWS Seattle:
Usually don't get to tweet about this because it is cloudy...the Lenoid meteor shower is in progress. It peaked Thursday evening but there is a chance of a quick burst of more of them tonight between 10 and 1030 pm. If they appear they will be low on the eastern horizon. #wawx #seattle #meteor #leonids

The #Leonids #meteor shower peaked last night and despite the weather, detected activity was high across the #ukmon camera network. Overall we've detected 1550 leonid meteors and matched over 200 orbits.

6am UTC (1am Eastern time) there is a good chance of a cheeky little #Leonids outburst with potential for meteors in the 100s per hour. Maybe worth a look...

Those of you with clear skies tonight might still catch some of the #leonids #meteorshower. It peaked in the pre-dawn hours today (17 Nov), but the shower continues until the end of the month. Best seen after midnight. Get outside, find somewhere safe and dark, and #lookup.

On Friday night we have a great opportunity to see meteors from the #leonids meteor shower. Head out from midnight and scan the skies! Wrap up warm! You can watch live captures on our #ukmon cameras here: https://ukmeteornetwork.co.uk/live/#/
05.00. A short spell shivering outside under an immense starry sky, watching the Leonids – just three meteors scything through the dark – then inside to warmth and books and coffee. And all is well.
Deep time outside and in today, and Laurie Lee’s early poetry to get me ready for writing about my own past. #leonids #books #reading #ReadingPile
