Spotted today in Moorreesburg, a Utetheisa Pulchella moth or Crimson Spotted Flunkey.
There were hundreds of them fluttering around.
I am very curious to know what the colloquial name is here in South Africa.

A nice male Dotted Border Moth found yesterday, as is the case of many spring species, their females are flightless, caterpillar hosts are deciduous trees like birch.

The Lappet moth is attracted to artificial light, you will find many of them sitting on the walls around lamps. Wingspan of a female is up to 88mm, male — 75 mm, caterpillar is up to 10cm in length, found on many deciduous trees.

Minus 10°C in the #naturepark #VosgesDuNord, grey fog swallows up the white landscape and the birds are miserably hungry. I already fill the feeders a couple of times a day.

Some spectacular, beautiful moths I've seen late at night in my backyard. Investigating online, I think they are: a Vine Sphinx, a Stained Glass Moth, and a Pawpaw Sphinx, but I'm not a #Lepidopterologist so I may be wrong.

These Gulf Fritillary butterflies are often mistaken for Monarchs here on Maui. The chrome spotting on the edges of the wings reflects light in a truly brilliant way. The oranges and reddish hues are spectacular in the right light.
