"The warnings of doom originate with ’s Eliezer , a man whose sole achievements in life are charity fundraising — getting to fund his Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI), a research institute that does almost no research — and finishing a popular fanfiction novel. With DeepMinds Gato en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gato_(, and the multimodal features of GPT4 and Lamda, I don't think it's valid to assume that nobody is trying to build an . Companies are undoubtedly working towards it. And seemingly dystopian and far off safety concerns, akin to the crowd, have their place in today's discussion of .

I just came across a neat wiki/article based place called “Less Wrong” (lesswrong.com) while researching some thoughts I had on computational complexity. It’s like the best blog posts from the people I admire in the industry all concentrated into one big wiki! I strive to be every day, so the place hit home for me :)

Does anyone have any particularly neat articles they’ve read there that you’d like to share?

In my essay "Against Utilitarianism" on my blog, I've significantly updated the section about the Von Neumann–Morgenstern theorem and the ways that people (especially certain economists and the crowd) misinterpret its conclusions. Here's an anchor link directly to the section I've updated:

Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment about the potential risks involved in developing artificial intelligence. Its conclusion is that an all-powerful artificial intelligence from the future might retroactively punish those who did not help bring about its existence, including those who merely knew about the possible development of such a being. It is named after Roko Mijic, the member of the rationalist community who first publicly described it, though he did not originate the underlying ideas.

The basilisk resembles a futurist version of Pascal's wager, in that it suggests people should weigh possible punishment versus reward and as a result accept particular singularitarian ideas or financially support their development.

Despite widespread , this argument is taken quite seriously by some people, primarily some denizens of LessWrong.
