The cops asked him if he needed help & he retorted "Yes, I need to know where I can get a lot of soup!" He had stopped in an intersection & was giving people on the street sandwiches out of his car. I walked by with SAGE Clan (we distribute bagged lunches, bottled water, muffins, #narcan kits & friendly conversation). I imagine that he felt outraged by the racist inaction of settler society here in #Lethbridge #Alberta. I can relate to his sense of urgency, to disrupt traffic, to draw attention.

This is how I experienced it. I saw the wind in the ash trees that were gesturing, excited about the presence of a significant being. The other members of SAGE clan arrived with carts & bottled water & paper bag lunches to distribute to the people on the street. A young man approached me & he started to talk. He spoke elaborately & truthfully. I don't yet know how to write about his brilliance. People need to know that there are young people with exceptional minds on the streets in #Lethbridge.

@pinskal here, the protestors at #drag storytimes repeat that we are "indoctrinating the children." I see their signs & I feel at a loss, because I need my fellow citizens of #Lethbridge, #Alberta, to wake up to the fact that we need a break or rupture with the intergenerational reproduction of extractive colonial patriarchy that indicates their anthropocentric/bourgeois values. @deonandan I currently live in the small but growing city of #Lethbridge, #Alberta, and I live near the main #bus station, which I walk past while doing my afternoon errands. It makes my heart 🌞 burst 💖 to see the #diversity of people in the neighbourhood. 🥲 In the #climate change era, #Canada can expect that people will be uprooted & need new #communities & as such all #schools should teach #Welcoming & #Belonging: intellectual humility, #nonviolent communication, mental #health first aid, etc.

We should redesign the sidewalks in #Lethbridge, #Alberta. 🚶🏻‍♂️ That is, a much larger area of the sidewalk around our #urbantrees could slope slightly toward their trunks, 🌳 to deliver more #rainwater as surface runoff to the bases of the trees, & their roots. 💧 A lot of our urban landscape was destroyed by pavement that is vacant & unused, & it could be dug up & restored & planted with boulevards of deep-rooted carbon-fixing indigenous prairie grasses. 🌾🦋

I walked past a running track, here in #Lethbridge, #Alberta, & I imagined a camp there for homeless people with wagons that are safe consumption sites inside; a fire pit in the center, tended by a firefighter, with an enormous cauldron of stew & kettles of tea & hot chocolate; and a book mobile. Later, musicians from the neighbourhood arrived with guitars. They played tunes by the fire in the afternoon. The field medicine wagon is prepared to treat common injuries & illnesses.

The small local #SeedySaturday, which is on a Sunday, so it's "Seedy Sunday" here in #Lethbridge #Alberta. Why is it so small here? Why aren't there more organic local seed companies? Why isn't Richter's Herbs (and other big organic seed distributors) here?

That said, the presentation regarding Urban Forestry in Lethbridge was historical & ecological & interesting.

One of the photos shows a table of seed packets of basic vegetables, arranged for sale by West Coast Seeds.

🏡 I live in #Lethbridge (population 100,000), #Alberta, where there are a few #homeless people in the old downtown neighbourhood. When City Hall asks Lethbridgeans how they could improve the downtown, antisocial & even psychopathic responses that lack #empathy & #compassion for humanity, are frequent, such as: "Clear the homeless people out of the downtown."
