I finally watched #LetMeIn and the reviews I read are right: It's a very good #Hollywood #remake of the original #Swedish, #LetTheRightOneIn (#LåtDenRätteKommaIn); maybe the best such #movie I've seen.

It sticks to the story and looks great. I especially love the lighting of the railroad, bridge (b/w!), and pool shot (you'll know them when you see them).

I liked the treatment of the parents, especially mom, but the religiosity added nothing.

It's still a #LoveStory. In a way.

Well, my advice is rather than watch Let Me In, watch the original Swedish film, Let The Right One In. The two are almost identical but the latter has more depth, more atmosphere and keeps more of the queer subtext from the novel.

There’s a lot in the novel that’s left out of both films, so ideally read the novel.

But I first watched the Swedish film and then later read the novel and that worked out pretty well.

Zero need to see the American film though.

OK, I have eaten, and now I’m going to watch Let Me In. I am *determined* not to compare it to the original or the book (which are both my favorites). Will just see it as a US #vampire movie. #LetMeIn

Eleven days or so ago, I shared some thoughts about the song Let Me In, by R.E.M., with the intention of expanding them into a full blog post.
