Today is so I blogged about the Alice Thornton (1626-1797) letters we have found. While Thornton is best known for writing four books about her life, we know that she frequently communicated by letter and we have been able to trace 26 of her holograph letters, with the latest written only a year before her death. thornton.kdl.kcl.ac.uk/posts/b

One of my favorite art projects in the area. I can't believe it's been running for 10 years and that Nakata-san is now 89!!!

(the article focuses on writing to dead people, but the way I understand the project, it's really about writing to whoever you can't actually write to - people who are gone from your life in general)

Who on here is using manual and electric /s? I have a Brother AX-210 that I love and a Remington (can't remember the model) that I like but may sell or pass on because I use it less. I use the Brother almost daily for making things and writing .

The Remington needs a new ribbon and I kind of want to make it myself. For now I have a source for ribbons for the Brother but they are plastic and I wonder whether people make (their own) ribbons somehow.

Aug day 1: Intro day. If you could hang out with one of your side characters for a day, who would you choose? Why?

JGA Peddle. He’s a very insightful person. He runs on the anxious side, but he’s a great supporter. He writes the best letters and has complete mastery of language.
He is also based on a real person, who wrote real letters in 1890’s Australia.
I’m actually in love with him, and spend probably too much time wondering how much he’d recognise Brisbane now.
He’s a side character in the Charleville historical novel, but I might give him a time-travelling short story all of his own.
I miss him.

Sometimes when typing, the keyboard locks up and the letters don’t appear on the screen. Have you ever wondered where they go?

Is there a universe of words which collects the letters, slowly spinning them into a galactic alphabet soup?

Maybe the stars and planets are writing an epic poem, spanning parsecs and eons?

Or even stealing quietly into our dreams, where the letters weave tales beyond the imagining of our waking lives.

Entirely unrelated to , I learned today that Wolfgang Pauli was invited to the Manhattan Project and he said no for "reasons of conscience".

Also just read a letter of his that spoke very negatively of the uses of physics in warfare. (In Atom and Archetype - The Pauli/Jung Letters.)

He was not considered a nice person by any means FWIW.

It's great to hear that there are still people in this world who read books with 600 and more pages :)

I am very grateful for this review.

Why not start the conversation before the receiver even has the envelope open?
I’m going through a box of letters, written by me, sent to my family. Most of these are from the time I was away for college. I wrote 4-7 page letters about everything and nothing. I’m finding the envelopes are equally as interesting. This one in particular. The stickers were on the front, but I always loved using the spaces that once held the stickers, too.
