Have you read the short story Belasco based his play that Puccini based his Madama Butterfly on? Half of it is mildly infuriating but worth persevering with IMO.

Bellini's Norma is thoroughly tremendous but I still prefer my alternative ending in which Norma and Adalgisa ditch the scummy cheating Roman tenor and live lesbianly ever after.
