@gardening the mixed bag:
My #peas had the same problem as the onions - compost too rough, ground too cold. But I really wanted peas, and I kept re sowing them until I got a few. Oregon Sugar Peas are absolutely my favorite and I’m going to plant so many more next spring. I eat them raw in the garden.
I failed out repeatedly planting #lettuce in one particular bed, but when I moved to a different bed, I grew two extremely fine crops. I used Adaptive Seeds Summer Lettuce Mix.
I’m still *scandalized* that carrot maggot flies infested my puny #carrots! There were enough for me to have a few and the equines to have a handful of snacks, otherwise I’d call them failures. I gave them some very nice, fine sandy soil and drip irrigation and they sullenly tried to die, over and over. They are the only plants so far this year with insect damage to the bits I want to eat. I tried like five varieties from four different sources, so it’s not them, it’s me.
I still really want carrots, and I’m thinking about where to plant a winter crop.

In case you didn't know, this is what a flowering #lettuce (#Lactuca sativa 'Lollo Bionda') looks like. After harvesting most of the outer leaves, I just watered it and let it grow.

Little windowsill trough of lettuce provided some nice tender micro greens for last night’s dinner.

I’ve figured out where to grow #lettuce: this bed. This is the place where the lettuce thrives. Got it!
I finally went to check on the little waist high fruit tree that’s just outside of the lower garden gate. Imagine my shock to realize it’s not a pear, it’s an #apple tree! There are *five apples* ripening on it!
The three Roma #tomato plants are setting loads and loads of fruit. A few of the other indeterminate main season tomatoes are starting to ripen, too. Soon I’ll have brag pics of colorful heirlooms! ☺️
And the miniature alpine #strawberries i grew and transplanted to the front porch yard are doing great! I got the donkey planter in California, but the pottery strawberry planter was here when we bought the house. I don’t think those things are big enough for regular strawberries to really be happy in them. But mini strawberries should be perfect!
I grew them from seed and of course there were extras. I put those down in one of the blueberry raised beds. These alpine strawberries make such tasty fruit, but it’s not worth spending time all the way down on the ground picking the patch growing with the asparagus. Im hoping that the ones in the raised bed and in these containers will be easier on the body for me to pick!

Our #AeroGarden is going nuts! Well, more specifically, it's going lettuce and basil!

It's just 33 days since we started the #lettuce from #seed and we've already harvested several lunches from it.

The #basil meanwhile is a couple of weeks older, 49 days since seeding, and it's given us a ton of #pesto and another growing bag of leaves in the freezer!

This is the first time we've planted our own seeds instead of using the pre-seeded pods and it's worked great!
