New evacuation orders were in place Sunday near two small central #California towns where a #levee was breached following recent downpours, as yet another winter storm brought the threat of major #flooding.
The agricultural communities of #Alpaugh and #Allensworth, home to a total of about 1,400 people, were ordered to leave because of "the possibility of residents becoming isolated due to impassible roadways," the Tulare County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

I want to value humans over capital, but I live in a country that values capital over humans.

The #hydraulic scour explanation is interesting, possibly interacting with preexisting glacial features like a kettle. The strand here is, I think, natural, so it’s not induced by a constructed #levee in this case. Thanks for the interesting reply.

As more cities face existential floods, they'll have to hustle to build defenses before waters rush in.
