Before #economicdevelopment comes #investment (both public & private), which is why the IPPRNorth report (detailed by the Guardian) reveals much about the problems in the #North... certainly they are pockets of wealth in the North (to be frank I live in one), but overall this suggest the #LevellingUpFund is merely a sticking plaster to (continue to) hide the problems of the centralisation of the UKs political economy on the #South; more than gesture are required here!

The #LevellingUpFund money being offered to #LocalCouncils is a lifebuoy being thrown to you by the person who pushed you into the sea in the first place....

@Dronernator As I understand it (I've not been involved in the project for some years), the private funding is committed as 'match' which is to say the £50m from the #LevellingUpFund should unlike already agreed (upon ongoing negations on) commitments from other funders....

No "levelling up" money from the UK gov for my council in the Scottish Borders, a deprived, rural area. But £19million to leafy Richmondshire, which by coincidence is the UK PM's constituency. For the Borders it could have made a transformative difference.

It's time we saw some solidarity among the local councils.

"Among the 78 places which make up the 25% most deprived areas in England, 48 were not awarded any funding through the second round of the Levelling Up Fund.

Among the areas that missed out were Salford, Burnley, Rochdale, Barrow-in-Furness, Thanet and Stoke-on-Trent, all of which are in the 10% most deprived areas in England.

Of the 32 most deprived areas, just over half (17) were awarded funding."
