Pride month is over, but the need for LGBTQ+ representation in media isn't going anywhere. This is an excellent look at the complexities of media attitudes to queer lives in an increasingly LGBTQ-phobic anglophone world.

Bit of a Pride month hidden gem here: fantastic panel from the International Journalism Festival back in April on how queer lives are (& are not) covered in Global South media. Informative, sobering, hopeful - very much worth your 45 mins.

It has some heart in a description of the protagonist not previously considering being a father because of being slow to adjust to the new reality where gay people could have families. It facilitates recognition of gay people as legitimate to the main audience of straight white women. It's political without rocking the boat. The best part is probably a line about the protagonist begging Elon Musk not to buy Twitter.
I watched The Holiday Sitter, a gay Christmas romance on Hallmark. It's basically a standard Hallmark movie with gay guys but decent as a yardstick of normalization. Thematically, it's about conformity and appreciating upper middle class white families who celebrate Christmas but has some interesting subtext. The advice given to children is subtextually about growing up gay. They even say "it gets better". It's not The Matrix, but you can tell the filmmakers tried to make it more than just another bog standard Hallmark Christmas movie.
