I think there is room to allow people to self identify vs me coming up with a definition others have to fit in. I say this from both observing of others and being the target of not being allowed to define their/my reality.

So yeah I am militant about this. When I say that, it means I am unwavering and willing to suffer for my beliefs. I am def an ally and have been since 1974.

I have touched on this in the Woodpecker.social about page, and intend on expanding on it later, but know this: There is no type of hate or bigotry I will tolerate internally or externally for the growth of this instance.

My best friends, roommates, best man at wedding, business partners, and more were LGBTQ. For decades most of the people I partied with, laughed with, cried with, shared joys and troubles with, argued with, and more, were LGBTQ2S. I am 67 years old now and have always been totally straight, but we all existed in harmony (on these issues at least, ha!).

I am an off the rez Native. I grew up on the south side of metropolitan Chicago.

When I was 18, my best friend since kindergarten came out gay. As it turned out, along with some of our other close friends, we all moved to the north side of Chicago. And since then the -majority- of my friends, social circles, and often business circles were LGBTQ2S. I stress this.

The events of the past few weeks around Pride events in the NHL have made it abundantly clear to me that, like we saw with Hockey Canada, there is still a deep old-school/prejudiced view in hockey culture that is toxic and resistant.

Apparently major happenings right now in Australian politics around trans-gender rights. This quote from Green Senator Nick McKim (who has a trans son) is pretty awesome:

Forgive the language but I think you’ll agree it’s deserved.

A bigoted asshat pulled our pride flag down…and then put it in our compost bin. Why are people so awful?? We’re surrounded by lovely #LGBTQ2S families!! It’s a kind, diverse area, keep your bigoted views somewhere else.
