I guess they like to hunt by sitting and waiting for prey, so that is why I tend to get photos of them and not the other varieties around here that hunt while flying.

A Scarlet Grenadier (Lathrecista asiatica) spotted at Coney Island, Singapore, on 29 Aug 2021. It was pretty calm and did mind us get close to it.
The Scarlet Grenadier is common and widespread dragonfly in the region.

A Variegated Green Skimmer (Orthetrum sabina) spotted at Tampines Eco Garden, Singapore on 16 Dec 2018.
This is a medium sized dragonfly with striking green and black markings. It is also widespread, from southern Europe to Australia, so you may have seen it.
