The reason is that 65% of the population are homeowners, so any policy that benefits first time buyers at the cost of homeowners will be a net vote loser. So no government is going to do that.
Obviously the century of house price inflation we have seen can't continue indefintely, but if govts can postpone the collapse until after the next General Election they will.

As far as I can tell there's the conservatives, the Labour Party (currently run as an anti-progressive operation) and the Liberal Democrats.
The reason there are TWO parties that are not conservatives is so that the conservatives always win.
The reason Labour has become anti-progressive is because it is feared they might win.

Conservatives 86 behind on 226, and Liberal Democrats on 40.

The third party, #LiberalDemocrats, when part of #UKgov also jumped on the band-wagon and voted for stripping #disabled & #ChronicallyIll folk of their #benefits ( #SocialSecurity ) and thus many lost their adapted vehicles, motor-scooters and even electronic #wheelchairs! There is little hope for us - save for #Scotland, but that may not last…
