It’s time to end Western Australia’s $4 billion-per-year GST bonus

In 2018 Scott Morrison (then Federal Treasurer) changed the amount WA receives from GST. It was 45% of GST collected from West Australians, Morrison changed it to 70% with a further increase to 75% in 2023/24.

The additional payment to WA this year is $4.1 Billion!

The payment to WA is not offset by a reduction to the other states; it is paid from consolidated revenue. We are all paying for this largesse to WA.

Why did Morrison do this?

To try and buy the then forthcoming WA election; an election that saw the WA Liberal Party totally decimated.

Yet we all continue to pay for Morrison’s stupidity. Remember this next time somebody tells you the #LiberalParty are the best economic managers.

I’ve been watching Senate Estimates (Education and Employment Legislation Committee). One of the hot topics has been #Labor policy to have same pay for the same work.

It seems that most of the staff who “work for” Qantas don’t work for Qantas! They work for one of the 38 (that’s THIRTY EIGHT) labour hire firms used by Qantas; half of these organisations have been setup by Qantas, the rest are external organisations.

It seems that most large private sector organisations use labour hire rather than employ their own staff - they do this to screw their workers, the people who generate their profits.

In my many years of public service the use of consultants seemed to be much greater during terms of Coalition government. It was always easier to get “the minister” to agree to a proposal if you could attach “an independent” report from one of the big four consultancy houses that was favourable to the proposal. The minister (and his staff) never read the reports, just used them as a comfort blanket. They also never seemed to understand that the consultant was not independent but wrote what he was told to write. The whole process was a fiasco brought about by #LiberalParty and #NationalParty inability to work effectively with their public servants.

I wonder sometimes how Scott Morrison is doing these days.

Not because I particularly care about his wellbeing but I wonder whether his appalling record as Worst Prime Minister Ever has impacted his job seeking efforts?

Why would any potential employer want to give a job to the man who was sacked by Tourism Australia for questionable activities; as a politician deliberately demonised & mistreated vulnerable people; believed god won him an election; lied & rorted openly; supported & promoted a political agenda the purpose of which was to widen the gap between rich & poor; who alienated & showed no interest in women beyond political expediency; didn't trust his colleagues & so appointed himself to multiple ministries?

Although some RWNJs might welcome those traits - dishonesty, secrecy etc... being grist to their political will - it's not much of a cv really, is it?
Is anyone going to employ him?

Personally, I'd love to see him given a job elsewhere, preferably in another country, so we taxpayers no longer have to pay him & he gets out of our political system forever.

The far-right NSW Reformers is a secretive fundamentalist Christian group within the NSW Liberal Party was allegedly created to influence “public policy”, including by stacking local councils.

“2019 NSW Liberal Party AGM had “core reformers” — including Whitelaw — appointed to six positions, with “a further 9 positions going to people that were influenced or supportive of the Reformers”.

“At the 2021 AGM (held in late 2022), eight “core reformers” and nine people “influenced by the Reformers” were elected.

“Importantly the Reformers now made up 50% of the right-wing faction’s total State Executive members,” the dossier states.

“That influence was magnified as numerous members were also appointed to the powerful Local Government Oversight Committee, which is involved in deciding who is “pre-selected” to run as Liberals in local council elections.

“The NSW Reformers were allegedly behind stacking the 2021 Hills Shire Council, in a move that blindsided the Liberal mayor and six other Liberal councillors, who were ousted after failing to gain Liberal Party “pre-selection”.
