Anecdotal observation.

The #libertarianParty in _red_ states seems more consistently in line with the general paleolibertarian values of yore. They are still not, uh, exactly what they say on the tin but they don't seem (at least on the surface) to trend nearly so hard alt-right/nazi on social media.

But the national party and the state-level parties in blue states are just full on indistinguishable from the conspiracy theorist, fascist side of the GOP.

Yep, yep, the #LibertarianParty is a Serious Political Party that is a Party of Principle and believes in Freedom.

The #LibertarianParty in particular is a case study in "pay attention to what aspects they talk about and which they don't."

Government overreach in #Florida? Crickets.

Abortion rights? Mealy mouthed equivocation.

Massive voter suppression through gerrymandering? Silence.

No no no, the #libertarians—the party of principle—are going to focus on the important matters, like how bad the Democrats are, the "damage of trans ideology in schools," and… whether the CIA assassinated Kennedy?

The #LibertarianParty has been a sham for a long time (c.f., Bob Barr, and I can go further back trivially) and they've always had a fringe element beyond the base membership, but especially recently they've gone all in a lot of stuff that makes them essentially no different than the MAGA republicans.

Except less rational and more fringe/out there.

So much for the "party of principle."

It ALWAYS baffles me when ppl criticize trans activists for being too “polarizing.” Like, there are ppl out here whose position is “being trans is wrong, and trans ppl shouldn’t have access to HRT, gender affirming surgery, and should dress like the gender they were assigned at birth. Also, trans ppl existing is a threat to “”our children”” and we will respond violently if we have to.” There are ppl who think that way, and you expect trans ppl to give a single inch?? Their lives specifically, and their way of life generally is literally under threat, why the fuck would they take that lying down??? If someone attempts to mug you, and you punch them in the face that’s not “being polarizing, that’s sticking up for yourself.

It’s always a “facts and logic” motherfucker who thinks this way too. Please, I’m begging you, tell me what’s “logical” about accepting ppl wanting to genocide you?? The libs are gonna get us all killed if they can help it, I swear to god.

I still can’t get over that my natural political home for almost all of my life has, in the period of just three years, has completely degraded into a complete swamp of racist, nationalist edge lords. It has always had a fractious and uncomfortable relationships with dark edges around the party (Paul, Rockwell, etc), but such is the nature of third parties because they are so tiny. However, to see them implode so fast is still surprising to me.
