Has anybody tried using Libervia as a bridge between XMPP and ActivityPub? I'm thinking about giving it a try so I can following people on the ActivityPub side from my Movim instance. It doesn't look all that straight forward to setup, though, so it's probably going to be a big time sink as I troubleshoot it while setting it up.

Have you tested the XMPP social media apps, Movim and Libervia? The latter is in the process of developing a bridge to the ActivityPub network, and is looking for beta testers willing to stand up XMPP servers:

#XMPP ecosystem has a bunch of open, interoperable yet independent applications. I don't know the exact current state of #Libervia but their efforts to bridge protocol with #ActivityPub is great to further strengthen chances of open technologies to (re)gain a good foothold.

@feditips Curious if you've heard anything about Libervia.org #Libervia. I just discovered this "all-in-one tool to manage all your communications needs: instant messaging, (micro)blogging, file sharing, photo albums, events, forums, tasks, etc." Reportedly compatible with ActivityPub, but I haven't had a chance to try it out.

@fdrc_md @movim #movim is not yet directly compatible with ActivityPub, but there is some very interesting work-in-progress gateway by the #libervia project that will hopefully make it possible to interact with Mastodon etc. directly from Movim soon.

There aren't many known bridges right now, so each button on the first page only has one page right now. XMPP+AP bridges will be added whenever #Libervia is ready, and whenever an AP+Bluesky or even a Bluesky+Nostr bridge appears, I'll set up some entries for those.

@g Something in tech I'm excited about is the development of a XMPP and ActivityPub bridge #libervia. I'm most interested in its potential for expanding choice. Once this is active and widespread enough, you'll be able to use the Libervia XMPP client, or even Movim which already exists, without losing your network.
Choice is something that's important to me, so it makes me excited to see more choice being opened up.

I'm considering buying a domain to share with the #ActivityPub #gateway and #bridge community. The idea is it would host public gateway instances, optionally doubling as info sites, available on publicly-listed subdomains, for discoverability and readability.
Is there interest for something like this?

@0 yep. And XMPP has had in-band registration for quite a long time, I think. They simply ignored a lot of working ideas, XMPP pubsub and Frendica/Hubzilla seemingly the major sources.

Creating an XMPP account on a #Libervia or #Movim service doesn't seem a bad idea. Libervia lead @Goffi is even bringing in ActivityPub interoperability to Libervia.

#WhatsappMigration to federated messaging ( #XMPP ) didn't happen because there was popular competition in that space from Signal, Wire, Threema.

#Mastodon has had no popular competition. In fact, the upcoming competition cooperates via Mastodon-flavoured ActivityPub even if it is simpler or superior - #Epicyon , #XMPP #PubSub #Movim #Libervia , #Hubzilla 's #Zap micro-blogging version with its magic auth.

I've been thinking that for years. Diaspora tried though and their effort died on the vine. @sean might have some insights into why. Maybe with the work done on making Libervia compatible with the fediverse, it's time for another go?

@didek @Psyklax @joel in the throes of #TwitterMigration people might be open to trying out multiple different services, so the way to get critical mass is to get them to try out all the open federated alternatives in parallel - it doesn't matter which one they stick with at the end, as long as it is not another silo!
