This one is a bit different than my usual posts, but it really changed my mind about something I thought I knew.

The story most of us know about the Library of Alexandria is wrong. While the Library was destroyed, or at least gone, by the time the Christians took over, the exact reason the library disappeared is not clear.

I was glued to the tv for Cosmos as a young child and have put Sagan into a sort of secular holy trinity alongside Jane Goodall and Jacques Cousteau since then. Further, I've always loved to be outraged over the cautionary tale of the burning of the Library of Alexandria. It's still good to have myths deflated.
