Trying to find only research articles (or review essays) is an interesting puzzle.

As others have mentioned, checking with an academic librarian for a curated list, and conducting boolean searches, are great starting points.

Some journals publish literature reviews (we don't, specifically, though we do publish evidence summaries of specific research articles).

However, there are some really cool tools you can use to improve the chances of finding things!

ResearchRabbit and Connected Papers allow you to find work that is connected, in some way, to a work that you specify - could be same author, same field, cited by, etc.

2Dsearch can be helpful, especially for anyone not used to boolean searching.

Hello Fediverse! We're the Student Research Journal out of San Jose State's iSchool, and our whole team is excited to join the interoperable web!

We are a double-blind, peer-reviewed journal developed and led by current graduate students at San Jose State University's School of information. Our goal is threefold: to empower budding researchers, to publish relevant content of the highest quality, and to build an international community of student researchers.

The peer review process is rigorous, but it's also an amazing opportunity to get feedback on your work from experienced editors. We'll work with you to polish your manuscript into its best possible form.

If you're interested in submitting your work to the SRJ, check out our website for more information.

@melikhovo While in school I recognized this, but following a sunk cost fallacy (which I never learned about in university) I chose not to change majors. However, I audited a large number of masters-level linguistics courses and that experience changed my life.

If I were to go back to school tomorrow I would pursue a Master of Arts in either Library Science or Linguistics, or a JD because I’m fascinated by the law.

I highly recommend emailing librarians when you assign their writing, if you are teaching. They don't always know that anyone reads their work. (Especially if it's proving to still be relevant and was written 13 years ago, and they've since retired!)

I have a list of 450 I'd like to analyze for a variety of trends. Is there a site with an up to date list of tools out ther? Everything that looks useful seems to have broken links.

Thanks in advance.

For Rare Book Librarians, It’s Gloves Off. Seriously.

When handling rare books, experts say that bare, just-cleaned hands are best. Why won’t the public believe them?

I have a favor to ask of this wonderful community.

My son, after being stuck (literally and figuratively) in life since the pandemic began has now decided to attain his Masters in Science. I know there is a strong community of here on mastodon, so I have an odd question.

He sent out all 7 of his applications and within 4 days was accepted into Pittsburgh. According to his research, this is considered one of the top 20 programs internationally. But he’s wondering - are they desperate and want to lock him in? I of course being his mother assume he’s just absolutely brilliant and they were so impressed they want to snatch him up before another program does.

As he has no one to ask, I thought I’d reach out to all of you. He has till mid April to accept or not.

I swear I’m not a helicopter mom, never have been. I’m quite the opposite in fact, which actually may be one of the reasons he’s been so stuck. I’m just so relieved that he’s found a direction, something, that I want to support him where I can.

Thank you!
